It's been incredibly frustrating for us. For context, my partner has a disability called cyclic vomiting syndrome, which will randomly put him out sick. Sometimes it's so extreme we have to take hospital trips to drug him up and shut him down.
Unfortunately, he is strictly WFH because of his condition and was laid off a while back (not because of his disability). He has several years of experience working in team lead positions, but has no desire to take on that particular role anymore and would rather work in a support position. One look at his resume, and he gets passed over immediately due to being overqualified, not to mention the mass layoffs in the tech industry and all employers suddenly demanding everyone go back into the office.
Getting on disability has also been a hurdle. His doctor has told us he has done everything he can, and will not sign off on disability paperwork until my partner has gone to The Mayo Clinic. How TF do we do that if he doesn't have a job or insurance?
My partner still does everything he can despite the condition. He has been driving hours upon hours of door dash and even gives plasma twice a week, which is incredibly draining and a risk to his health.
WTF do we even do now? Should we try and find a program for people with disabilities?
