I have worked for a large group for the last five years and held different positions within the company.
I moved to my current position several months ago and took it partly for the networking/events coordination. Things have been going well – things are organized and there’s full records of all communications for these events now. I love this part of my job as I get to network and meet new people.
Cue higher up coming in- who’s been gone the majority of the last several months and who knew it was my job and in the description- gave the ok for the job to be posted.
Now she wants to take over this part of my job. Not only does she not talk to me directly she talks to my supervisor and then emails me (after their first meeting) asking me to show her our system on a day my supervisor won’t be around. ???
My supervisor slows her down and asks to sit down and have a meeting- and tells her that I will not be meeting with her until after their meeting.
So they have this meeting yesterday and she still wants to take it over. Then she started trying to come after another part of my job which she’s been told no multiple times on. HR and another higher up are in the know—- whatever comes of this we will have to see. I have put a lot of time and energy into this and making sure things are recorded and properly maintained. Shame on her- I don’t care how high on the ladder you are- you don’t just say oh I want to do this and take it from someone without even sitting down and discussing it.
I got an opportunity to add trainings and learn more about other aspects in our department from my supervisor which could add additional compensation – but is it worth it to stay at a company that allows this kind of politics? Or politics in the office in general?
What would you do?
