A little backstory: I have a very close family friend of mine who is a dean at a very well known university. I’m talking, one of the heads of the department in one of the biggest departments in the entire university. I saw a job opening at the school that very much interested me and thought that I should reach out to her to see if she could help. She wrote me what was quite possibly the nicest letter I’ve ever laid my eyes upon. I personally don’t think I am as great as she made me out to be that’s how nice it was.
Anyways, I applied to the position. She sent the letter to the head of the IT department where I applied. This position I was very much qualified for and even overqualified in some aspects. I know all of the technologies they required through and through, and I have worked for companies doing similar things. I am absolutely qualified enough to at least get an interview.
Got an email today, “We will no longer be moving forward with your application”. If I can’t get even an interview for a job I’m overqualified for with a letter of recommendation to the head of the department, how am I supposed to get anything? It’s not like my resume is bad, I am getting several callbacks so I know it’s not that. But like, damn.
