Someone asked me why I don't have any suitcases at all and thought it was extremely weird. “What do you do when you go on vacation?” I stay at home or drive to the beach on my few days off. “When was the last time you got on a plane and traveled somewhere for vacation?” Uhh like 16 years ago I was around 9-10 and my sister who lived in Washington DC at the time graduated high school so I went and saw that. “You've never gone anywhere on vacation as an adult?” When would I have time or the ability to? I then explained to them how most companies I worked for in the past don't really have vacation time they actually have the opposite where you can only have 4 sick days a year and most companies will hold your job hostage even if you're sick I've been on the phone with a manager while in the hospital for a complete mental breakdown and he said “well if you wanna keep your job you should probably show up tomorrow”. That's pretty much how it is I would say at 90% of places most people could get a job. I now thankfully have been working a much much better job than I ever have in my life for about 7 months also this company during orientation showed me im able to put in my own time off and vacation and sick time its not a request I have to make and get approved by someone else i get to use my legally earned sick pay and vacation hours its fantastic ive never worked anywhere else that did that its always a request you have to make and now I'm wondering how many hours of sick pay I had over the years and never was shown or told by the companies i could and how to use them. Hopefully now i will be able to take some sort of vacation like that one day but I just found it so funny his assumption was everyone gets to do that and he couldn't understand why I didn't have dedicated luggage.
