My job lied about WFH

I just started my job in December of 2022, under the terms that I would be working in a hybrid position, working from home part time and in office part time. The company spent a lot of time hyping up the flexibility, and I’ve only been out of training since March, and they just announced the full time return to office starting in September. In several previous meetings, including the meeting where they announced they requirement to come to the office 50% of your scheduled pay period, they promised that this was not a step towards full time in office, and not to worry (I immediately started worrying). This was said by the CEO himself. We have been advised by our immediate supervisors not to worry about attending the monthly corporate meetings because 90% of the time they won’t revolve around us.

However the email that just went out to the whole company as a recap of that meeting details that they announce a full time expectation to return to office starting September 9th. A straight bold faced lie and the immediate leadership being instructed to not have us attend the meetings is an evasion tactic of meteoric proportions.

I refuse to quit because I make pretty decent money ($20/hr) for an entry level job with a relatively light work load, and I am not in the position to change that stability, and my boss is actually nice to me, and I’m left alone to do my work. However, all of my peers are outraged, as am I, and I’m finding myself to be skeptical of anything the company says moving forward because as we all know, if they lie once they’ll do it twice.

TLDR; it’s a decent gig with good benefits and a decent wage especially in this economy, but I don’t feel comfortable being lied to so directly, and my schedule is going to dramatically change once this goes into effect.

Just wanted to share my experience.
