Struggling Parents

Anyone else feel resentment for not being able to spend as much time with their kids as they’d like? I constantly compare myself to my Gen X parents, who had my siblings and I after high school and made out okay doing no further professional development. Anyone else feel resentment for not being able to spend as much time with their kids as they’d like? I constantly compare myself to my Gen X parents, who had my siblings and I after high school and made out okay doing no further professional development.

They were able to use their free time to make us delicious meals all the time, play with us, read us books, and introduce us to good music. We had a blast, and now that I can’t afford my daughter the same I feel inadequate.

Meanwhile I was deemed the “most successful” of my siblings, yet had to go to the military and barely have time to be around for my child. I don’t even deploy. I just spend my off time going to school for an IT degree (mechanic by trade), working out to not lose my job (barely), and fixing up our house and cars.

By the end of the day I’m mentally drained, and most weekdays have me doing simpler assignments since the weekends require the more intensive work. My spouse and I still struggle to keep up the house and feed our child healthy foods since the story is very similar.

Yet we are considered lucky to be homeowners as Gen Z. Fuck this place, and fuck our mental health.
