I'm a mechanic and my brother was our shops parts guy. He ordered a headlight bulb I requested and also ordered my mom a cooling fan, BUT he placed both on the same invoice to my name. They only accept cash for some reason. My mom and I gave my brother the cash to pay since he is the parts guy.
Fast forward 3-4months and they fire my brother for unknown/unrelated stuff.
Our HR personal and service manager both come up to me and tried to have me sign off on an agreement of paying the parts off…. We paid those parts already. Yet they're claiming we didn't. The agreement in which I DIDNT sign– states if I dont pay by due date they will take it out of my payroll. I didn't sign. They never took anything out of my check.
A month/month and half goes by. Now that I was leaving work my manager took me aside and said I, again, need to “do something about it” or else they will take it out of my check.
Obviously I took this as a threat and instead of losing my cool I left without saying a word.
They keep trying to strong arm me about this thing and I keep telling they need to speak to my ex-coworker brother about it because we paid it in cash and in full. They then just tell me “we'll that doesn't matter because it's under your name- and even then why not just talk to him yourself?” Like he's my brother yeah but THATS YOUR EMPLOYEE THAT YOU FIRED.
Does his threat hold any weight? The parts costs close to $150. And what can I do about it?
