Company expects me to train co-workers with more seniority.

Years ago in a job I was asked to train some co-workers. They all had more seniority than me which would have kept me on night shift forever. Backstory is I was trained in another company on a machine this company had only recently began using. I was hired in at full rate as an operator not long after these machines were bought. I asked him what was up, and he told me he was my new trainee. He had over ten years more seniority than me. Immediately found the boss and asked why I wasn't informed of this, and asked if there was any compensation for being a trainer. Boss says he didn't think I'd mind training guys, and no there is no compensation. I told the boss since I came trained the only way I'll train guys is if I get put on day shift and can't be bumped. No can-do boss says. No can train, me says. Left that company about six months later. I heard about a year later they sent guys home on a Friday with paychecks, but when they showed up for work on Monday the gates were locked, the office cleaned out, and machines loaded on trucks out back.
