I've seen a lot of posts in this sub and other similar ones bashing the new Florida law that seems to be driving off immigrant workers. I know that DeSantis is normally everything this sub goes against, but I strongly believe that this law is a step in the right direction and should be adopted nationwide.
Businesses do not hire illegal immigrants because Americans don't want the position. Businesses hire illegal immigrants because Americans don't want the position at the garbage wages being offered. Any system that doesn't do it's best to weed out illegal employees is actively working to suppress the wages of everyone else. The average person might not want to pick apples in the sun at 5 bucks an hour, but I bet they'd consider it for 50 an hour.
Any business or industry that cannot survive paying a living, actually competitive wage doesn't deserve to survive. We shouldn't be laughing at job sites being shut down, we should be crying that this is the outcome of decades of good jobs being destroyed.
I think DeSantis is a danger to the country, but I strongly support this law and I believe everyone here should as well. Until we hold employers accountable for dodging fair wages, we will not make any progress.
