Worked for a cabinet production company. I won't give the name, as this literally just happened.
So our management has been on a bad streak of messing up orders. Either cabinets don't assemble right, we're under prepared, they're changing shipping procedures, and wanting us to build some custom work for one of the head-honchos of the company.
I worked the finish line. Which builds, cleaned, drilled, tightened, adjusted, and wrapped every single cabinet. With only 3 people on the finish side, we're tasked with a 70 cabinets a day goal. Long story short, we're exhausted and overwhelmed.
So a tiny bit of quality slips. We're rushing to fast to hit our quota, that our quality of course went south. They had us unload hundreds of cabinets by hand, fix the problems, and reload them by hand. These can range anywhere from 20lbs – 250lbs.
The president of the company had a shit-eating grin when he instructed us on everything we needed to do. We tried to combat this sudden insurmountable task, but he literally laughed and wished us luck. My team, being fed up with his treatment of us, all called off on the Friday after that day. All of them but me. And I was then tasked with handling as much of the repair work as I could physically manage.
The next week. My team has returned. We slammed our head together. And proceeded to blast through a months worth of labor in 4 days. By Thursday, we were only waiting on the doors of a couple massive cabinets. Our team lead and I were boasting about it. We thought we had fully redeemed ourselves.
So today rolls around.. And we've started normal production back up, along with finishing the odds and ends of this hellacious project. We're in good spirits. And everything seemed to be back to manageable paces. 2nd break rolls around, and my team lead hits our phones with a surprise text message.
“These fuckers just fired me! Watch out! They're not done with just me!”
All of that break, we sat there in silence. We just lost our team lead. The only person who knows literally everything. There is no replacement for her. When we all come back in, my manager stops me. And I knew exactly what was about to happen.
They used us. They worked us half to death for months straight, and when we slipped up once because of their incompetence, they had already decided to fire us. Most likely for that little protest that my team pulled.
I don't blame them for protesting against it. But I was fired by association with them. They claimed “poor quality, and lack of responsibility”. The AUDACITY!
This company has no idea what hell they have just unleashed on themselves. I can find work anywhere for $17.50 an hour.. But they got rid of the one person who kept that place afloat. Even if they kept me and fired everyone else, my employment there wasn't going to last long. Not without our team lead.
Thanks for letting me rant. I'm too tired and worn down to even get emotional over this. I just got home, and started blasting resumes out on indeed.
Onto the next one, I guess.
