That One Invincible Co-Worker

I can't stand having that one co-worker who seems to always find a way to avoid any trouble. I work in a very small medical office. I have one now, I'll call her Sarah. Sarah is put on a special project, but is also supposed to work the phones if we get overwhelmed. Instead, Sarah wanders off randomly for long periods of time, spends a good portion of her day hanging out in the overworked supervisors office, and generally is just a nuisance. Sarah also often makes critical errors. We were incredibly short handed yesterday and she was supposed to cover my lunch, and then I'd cover hers. Instead she waited a few minutes after I left and then went to lunch, so there was no coverage. Sarah will randomly just start crying throughout the day, or randomly cackling like a witch at everything. She takes no responsibility for anything…

She takes no responsibility for anything and it's either someone elses fault (it's not) or she just doesn't know how it happened and she should get more help.

Then last week she caused a HIPAA breach. A pretty severe one, but “luckily” it affected only one patient. The Director and her supervisor took her into the office. Normally this would be a fired on the spot thing, but here she is, still happily being a drag on the rest of us. No mention of anything, nothing happened.

No matter what she does she is apparently untouchable. This morning I flat out asked my supervisor if Sarah had some kind of special title or did she know someone or what, because she never ever seems to be in trouble and is clearly a favorite of someone.

Multiple people in the office are looking for other jobs specifically because of Sarah, specifically because she apparently can do whatever the hell she wants without repercussion. I know I'm starting to look elsewhere already because of it.
