Hello !
I am from austria, and because the government allows it, it is quite common that companies – especially big ones – keep temporary workers for long periods of time. Also personnel with higher education. I am an engineer and employed as temp. worker for several years now at the same big company. That has the drawback, that I do not get a yearly bonus like my colleagues, which are employed directly at the company I work at. Besides the general raises enforced trough the union I did also get no other raises or any compensation. The salary is ok, but could be more when I consider for what I am supposed to be responsible. Because of this, I see myself as some sort of “mercenary”: I only work the hours stated in my contract, refuse to to do overtime and generally do not give a crap about that company. Recently I managed to reduce my worktime to part-time and got a 4-day-week (basically I got an counteroffer from competition and made the deal: if you want to keep me, you also have to offer me this work-hours and arrangement of workdays per week). Today I had my annual review with my supervisor. One big complaint he had: That I lack initiative at work and do not overtime – yeah right, have a good reason for that. But about the topic of becoming direct employed at this company he said: Yeah with part-time, 4-day-workweek, there is no chance they will do that. Ok, then we are in some sort of “gridlock” – As long as I am temp. personnel, I will continue like the last several years there – but now with more free-time for me, and they will never actually employ me. And the funniest part was: We wrote in the document, you have to also fill-out for that for my career objective: getting employed by that company – lol
In short: Boss says: Do more ! Me: First employ me, and then pay me more – double-shocked-pikachu-face
