So today I got pulled into a private meeting with my manager who just tore me a new one for applying to a position “I didn’t meet the qualifications for”. I have expressed in the past that this was my career choice from the beginning of joining the company and feel that since I already have several years experience within the company and that since we are in the smaller office and HQ controls everything we do the qualifications they had seemed overkill. My manager said I was just wasting everyone’s time by applying and made myself look stupid to management for 1. even thinking I had a chance of getting the job and 2. not telling him or anyone else in management that I was applying. While I understand that yeah maybe I should have asked I saw this as showing that I am interested in the job and feel I have a shot and if management feels differently the. we can discuss what I can do to work towards my goal. Now i’m just ready to leave this toxic place and keep my head down before they try and fire me for this “stunt” that I pulled. Was I in the wrong here or did management over react?
