Has anyone ever faked a competing job offer in order to leverage more money from their current company and if so, how did that work out for you? My company was recently acquired by a larger/shittier Corp and so naturally several people have left. For the most part new company doesn't care but some of the more valuable ( but non-upper management like myself) employees were offered substantial raises to stay. (They didn't.) I make good money for my geographic location but mediocre for my actual job title so I'm thinking of asking my boss if he'll match my “offer” without officially putting in my two weeks or anything. Is this a terrible idea? I am asking here because a lot of people I know are stuck in the “never rock the boat, don't bite the hand, we should appreciate our overlords” bs that I no longer ascribe to. I am asking because I don't currently see what I have to lose. I will say my day to day is pretty cushy compared to say retail life but I am still the hardest working/lowest paid person in my department and that is a daily rub in itself. So my antiwork brethren, what say you?
