Volunteer “opportunity” on days off as part of Corporate responsibility

I work for a pretty ethical company and I'm salary. I recently participated in an event on a Sunday (my day off) so I started work late Monday to compensate myself. I also have a firm personal rule about only working 40 hours no matter what. On the rare occasion I have felt it ok to do more…I comp myself time the next day. I am salary and can do so…but many employees are not/can not without express approval. I know one participant used their PTO because they work Sundays. Now, voluteering for the organizations (let's say local animal shelters) is absolutely a good cause. However the communication didn't mention any details about what the volunteer work is (heavy lifting/ walking…??) And it did not mention what my employer is doing for these non profits (besides encouraging volunteers in their employees).

Since, I'm assuming my employer will brag about this on social media, etc I feel this is wrong on a fundamental level. I feel it should be paid or comped in pto.

AITA?
