Employee owned companies vs. companies owned by investment firms

Anyone work for employee owned company here? Would be interesting to hear opinions around culture, lifestyle and overall satisfaction of both types of ownership in a company setting. I may be jumping to conclusions, but it seems that having a company like BlackRock own your employer vs. employee owned company may be the reason for so much inequality in the system. Example – company owned by investment firm produces a profit and is paid to the investment group and not reinvested back in human capital, development, new technologies or just raising wages of workers. Investment firm will demand same amount of profit next year plus some. Don't meet the requirement, they'll slash spending, layoff etc to ensure they get their return.
