I am an undergraduate college student (graduating next semester) and I’m home for the summer. I’m a psychology major so it’s pretty hard to find jobs and internships. I applied to several summer internships and got rejected from them all. So I decided to look for jobs instead, I was prioritizing jobs related to mental health and helping people with disabilities so that I can get some relevant experience. But I also applied to jobs such as cashiering at grocery stores, receptionist jobs, fast food, retail.
I’ve applied to over 50 jobs, and been rejected by 15 so far. I literally have experience working in fast food AND in pet care and I’ve been rejected from all of those types of jobs that I’ve applied to, they never even offered an interview. I put a lot of effort into writing my resume and cover letters even when cover letters are optional and I still get rejected.
Here’s the most frustrating part: I got offered a phone interview and scheduled an appointment with the link they sent me. The day comes of the interview and they never called me. I couldn’t even contact them because I didn’t have their information. Then a couple of weeks later I get a call from a different job but I missed it because I was in the shower. They left a message saying to call back if I’m interested in coming in for an interview. I called back TWICE and sent an email and they never got back to me.
I’ve been home for over a month and I still haven’t gotten a job. How could all these places be “urgently hiring” but I can’t land a single job after applying to 50????
I can’t really ask my university to help me find jobs because I’m an out of state student so all the jobs they have told me about are in the area of my school, 7 hours away from where I am for the summer.
I’m so sick of the constant rejection I just feel like giving up. I wanted to move out and live in the state where my school is after I graduate because I really like the area and I plan to go to grad school there but now I won’t be able to afford an apartment. I just feel so hopeless.
