Antiwork

I am literally having to beg for a job.

I hate this so much. I was part of one (of the many) big tech layoffs this year in April. A big cloud based ERP company. And then a month after our restructuring they posted a 30% increase in revenue which was billions is profit for them. Not a typo, they had a 30% increase and still had internal layoffs. 4 of my deals were handed to other reps and they immediately closed them. I received zero for that work. The severance was laughable, so now I'm paying more than my mortgage for health insurance. And since then I have applied to over 100 companies, had dozens upon dozens of interviews and made it to round 6 with four different companies. All to be given a “Thank you for your Interest” email at the end and they go with someone else. I hate this. I hate that companies can be…

I hate this. I hate that companies can be so picky they won't give anyone a chance unless you check 20/20 boxes. They won't give you any feedback, and demand weeks upon weeks of your time. My last rejection was yesterday. I started talking to them in mid April. My last interview was a 45 minute presentation I had to give on THEIR product without a second of training. The call ended with them very impressed with what I did and were excited. Then the automated email.

I have a family and I'm failing as a father because a 20 something recruiter won't move me to talk to anyone (I'm 40). I had one company that the recruiter reached out to me because my background was a perfect fit. Our first call went amazing and was 1/2 the allotted time because she said “you are 100% the type of candidate we are looking for, I don't even have any questions today”. The timeline was great, the salary was perfect. She then ghosted me for a week. I had to connect with another team member at the company, and when they spoke internally the new contact said “the recruiter said you didn't really align because of your background.” WTF?? Where did that come from? You reached out to me, and told me I was a fit! You are toying with people's lives and making them wait weeks with no response or anything.

I miss the days when people were willing to take a chance. I think it's ridiculous that 6-7 people have to love you before you can get a job. At your current job if I grabbed 7 other people from your team will every single one of them love you? NO! That's just life.

I just need to vent, because honestly I don't know how I'm going to make it through this weekend within drinking myself into the grave. I am going to lose everything because after speaking to me for 6 weeks a company gives me an automated “thanks!” email that is complete BS. I just want to work. I just want to provide for my family and spend time with them. Instead, on father's day weekend I am about to have a mental breakdown and now applying to about 20 more companies just to try and get in the door.
