Timestamping a work related injury. Just in case.

I'm an automotive technician. Was walking underneath a vehicle that was up on a lift, and straight headbutted a brake rotor. Put me on my ass. Heard my neck crack. I'm 6'3 and used to bumping my noggin because this world wasn't built for people my size. So it didn't hurt much. No blurry vision. No headache. But lord does my neck hurt, and will probably hurt worse tomorrow. Little cut, little blood, little bump. But unless I'm scared, I'm not going to a doctor. Welcome to America. Seriously, what good would a workers comp paid for visit to a doctor do for this, if it's just what I think. I'll lose the day's pay. And then the hospital will fart up the paperwork and bill me and the workers comp insurance my employer carries, and I'll lose more time fighting it. And the doctor will want to do a…

And the doctor will want to do a follow up, because that's how they get paid. More time lost.

My second year in this business, I broke my ring finger. Luckily, I had seen what that can do if you wear jewelry, so I don't wear any at work, not even the wedding ring. Still, off to the doctor who set it poorly, and billed me for the visit that I fought for a year. And I was back working with a splint the next day. You know what it's like being a mechanic with a mostly useless hand? It pays better than not working, because America. That was 17 years ago. I still can't close that hand all the way now because of how the finger was set.

Anyway, just wanted to rant about not really having a good choice in this because working class life in America sucks, and I need something to refer back to if I wake up and can't move.

Be safe out there.
