Email I sent the chief of my dept about my direct supervisor and how she handled a situation concerning a patient who’s diet had changed

Hi there, So I was unfortunately quite displeased with how a situation was handled this morning 6/29/23. Our NW patient in H2 had a diet change to 7 ETC and lvl 3 liquids which I discovered when I was doing my normal routine of checking the self select floors for Iddsi (modified texture diet) patients to ensure the items they have ordered are in stock or enter items for them that ARE in stock. I noticed the new diet for our NW friend, and I called the nurse to check in about the new diet. Hi there,

So I was unfortunately quite displeased with how a situation was handled this morning 6/29/23.

The Nurse informed me they would like finger food items for the patient and/or more dry items as the patient has a tendency to throw items at the nurses. T reached out to A to see what we should do and she reportedly told T she would “handle it” when she came in.

So J messaged on teams and said that his usual order for bfast was in the grid… it is not. The Grid states “copy meals from 5/4” which I explained to J. She offered up that we could temporarily revert the diet in order to view his preferred items. T expressed that he felt uncomfortable doing so.

Afterwards, both A AND J entered the diet office and questioned us about what happened. We explained exactly what happened and were confronted on the fact that we “needed to send a tray regardless” T once again expressed that he didn’t feel comfortable changing a diet order to which J quipped “that’s kind of our job” which it isn’t.
The patient in question received a tray just not at the requested time of 7:30.

I do not appreciate someone taking ownership of a situation only to blame others for not “handling it”. I also do not appreciate being confronted and treated like I did something wrong when I went out of my way taking extra steps to ensure patient satisfaction.
