Done with hotels

I recently got let go as a front office manager for a chain hotel. I've been in the industry for the past 8 years, and made it to the GM level. I was let go in retaliation for asking for a raise for our busy season and for previously asking for health insurance, which I was entitled to months prior. I recently got my final paycheck and saw I was shorted by 6 hours. The last day I worked was a 13- hour shift where 99 of the 114 rooms checked out with 60 rooms coming in. I recently got let go as a front office manager for a chain hotel. I've been in the industry for the past 8 years, and made it to the GM level. I recently got my final paycheck and saw I was shorted by 6 hours. The last day I worked was a 13- hour shift where 99 of the 114 rooms checked out with 60 rooms coming in. My GM did not want to come in because she previously told the staff that she was taking that day and the previous day off. The housekeeping supervisor was recently put in the role and refused to communicate with the front desk when rooms were ready. I Also offered to help her inspect rooms, which she refused. She ended up calling my GM without my knowledge begging her to come in to help around 5pm. My GM came in super pissed off that her day off was ruined, and refused to even look at me.

After being let go, I realized it was a blessing in disguise since almost all hotels are severely understaffed, severely overwhelmed with guest and ownership demands, and when you get to management levels you stuck covering callouts, especially those overnights. I've learned that the phrase “no one wants to work” is complete bull. People don't want to work a job that's soul sucking, time consuming and offers little to no benefits.
