Franchisee penny-pinching is costing him almost his entire staff.

I deliver for a chain restaurant. The franchisee that owns our location also owns 10+ other locations within the state and adjacent states, and does not live in my city. I have worked at this location for almost 4 years and have actually really enjoyed it, and have made extremely good money for the hours that I work. Up until about a week ago everything was smooth sailing, until we were informed that we are going to be forced to use company cars that they will be supplying. We get paid around $11/hr in store and $6/hr when on the road delivering, plus tips, and $2 of the delivery fee. These company cars will audio and video record us the entire time we are in the vehicle (yes you read that correctly, we would have our every waking moment recorded for a lousy $6/hr), and our portion of the delivery…

Up until about a week ago everything was smooth sailing, until we were informed that we are going to be forced to use company cars that they will be supplying. We get paid around $11/hr in store and $6/hr when on the road delivering, plus tips, and $2 of the delivery fee. These company cars will audio and video record us the entire time we are in the vehicle (yes you read that correctly, we would have our every waking moment recorded for a lousy $6/hr), and our portion of the delivery fee is being taken away, giving us absolutely $0 of the delivery fee. We did the math and on average each driver would be taking about a $500-$600 loss in pay per month. When it was mentioned, we told our general manager that we would all quit if this went through, and they didn’t believe us or discuss this with the franchisee. Now every driver in store is looking for another job, along with majority of the in store workers. The GM still thinks it’s a bluff. Once we all find work and leave, it would leave about 3 employees still working there. We have a tremendously difficult time staffing as well due to not being felon friendly, and paying less wages than most delivery gigs. Add in being recorded constantly and paying even less than they already do and this store is going to crumble. After years of watching this company make ridiculous decisions, I’m nothing short of giddy to watch this completely blow up in their faces
