In my first post college job, I received a stellar review after a year of work and got a 12% raise and a 10% bonus. This was over a decade ago. Ever since then, the only avenue I've had to make more money is to hop from job to job. No one will give me a raise, it's not even part of the discussion anymore. Every time I ask for a raise, even just to keep up with inflation, I'm offered $100-$500 holiday bonuses, or told I can leave if it suits me better. I do data work, I'm solidly in the middle class.
I don't know if there's a point to this post. I just had this thought last night and I had to put it in wiring. The last time I was offered a raise was at my very first job. Fuck.
