I currently work at a small marketing agency of less than 10 people. I took on this job offer because I previously worked in a large corporation and was tired of putting in so much effort and being the top performer without getting recognised.
It was all going well at the start, with only a few hours of overtime during weekends every week, which I could tolerate. Now it’s got to the point where I’m working extra hours daily, being contacted to work on Public Holidays and even when I’m on Vacation Leave.
I get that working in social media means that overtime is expected, but not to this extent.
When I confronted the company about this matter, they stated that they thought it was clear during the interview, when in reality overtime was not mentioned and the contract only states that overtime is required ‘from time to time’.
My english tells me that phrase does not mean ‘daily’.
I now feel overworked, have no time for my family, fiancé, or friends, and neither to keep up with my part-time studies and hobbies. This results in me not performing at my best all the time, which sometimes results in small errors in my job. The issue is that these minor errors are treated like big ones by my superior, and she literally changes her mood to being mad ONLY when talking to me. I spoke to he director of the company regarding this matter and they also stated that overtime is still going to be required, despite me feeling overworked and tired all the time now.
My family, fiancé and friends are understandably very concerned and are trying to help me out. What should I do?
