I gave my one week notice after finding a job some where else. It may have been bad timing as it is his last week as well but my mental health and overall happiness has taken a hit lately and after everything I’ve been through I need to focus on myself as that is more important then a job.
My line manager sat me down for what I thought was going to be a productive conversation on why I am leaving. He instead proceeded to rip into me, calling me “unprofessional” trying to attack my character, saying I’m “stepping down to do less work” (I’m going from a head bartender role to a senior bartender however my new place is far busier and pays more), talked about my work ethic not being up to standard (despite having my 6 month probation chat the previous week and him saying I’m passing all standards and doing a good job ), compared what I’m doing to being a “journeymen”. He also said he was pretty much going to make my last week of work hell and give me all the shitty jobs to do.
I was shocked and taken back by this as the companies whole ethos is “Work hard and be nice to people” – which I now know is bullshit. The company is also in the UK’s top companies to work for so even more surprising behaviour.
I complained to HR and to my GM. Now he has a disciplinary to go through and his new work ( he’s transferring restaurants in the company to a site in another city ) will know. Someone who claims to live and breath the company will now have that on his record, that he has bullying and harassment allegations. I’ve called in sick everyday so I hope he’s been overworked and stressed out. He wanted so bad to leave a good handover for whenever they hire a new bar manager, now he won’t as he has to organise moving cities on top of making sure everything is in order at work. The team is probably overworked and tired. That is his fault.
In an unrelated conversation me and him had a few weeks ago he told me “Let stupid people talk” implying stupid people will keep talking until they say even more stupid stuff. I did indeed let a stupid person talk.
