Recently after a long time searching for jobs post serving a term (non-violent) I finally found a job that had “hired” me despite my record, and after a couple days of backroom computer training, was told I would official start full scheduled employment on Monday. I was concerned however about how the interviewing manager who gave me the job belittled me, but he knew I had little choice so I went along with it, since he wouldn't actually be someone I would see on the floor daily.

On my last day of backroom training which was only for a few hours this morning, I was leaving in my car, which due to unfortunate circumstances is currently my house. It took me too long to get a job and no flexibility was given to me so I ended up having to live out of it.

As I was driving away I found that the police were called on me for allegedly stealing the cash deposit bag from the backroom, which my head boss (the interviewer) would claim went “missing”.

The police who stopped me told me to get out which I did with my hands up and closed the door. My doors were not unlocked so they screamed at me to open the door, I told them to calm down, I was about to unlock the door, but then two (of 3) officers screamed at me to not be stubborn. This was as I was complying mind you. Then suddenly without prompt the third officer gets out this metal piece and knocks it against my back window a few times shattering it, then opening the door.

As one officer cuffed me, they had me held for nearly an hour as they searched my car finding nothing and made some calls. They then eventually gave a very condescending pseudo-apology, uncuffed me, and drove off warning me that they'll be reviewing if I hid the bag at the job or along the route I was driving.

It was when I returned that I found my hiring manager talking with two other cops, and yes I flipped out on the him verbally, not physically. All of us went and searched the break room, then the backroom, and shock, under the PC keyboard the deposit bag was found.

This is when my manager acted as if I and one other person were the only people in the area, and he said even though I did not leave the premises with the bag, it was likely I was the one that hid it because the worker who was there went on break before he found the bag missing. He also told me that he could terminate my employment anytime since there was a delay in receiving back my background(and drug) test due to “issues”. He had the cops escort me out and told me they would soon review all break room footage and other leads and I am blocked from being employed.

It seems clear to me this guy was just covering his ass, assuming he didn't pull this stunt on purpose. He was clearly wrong. I called some lawyers as well as any company numbers to higher staff I could find about this situation, and to address the damage done to my car.

As you can see the cop who broke my rear window broke near the whole thing, so being that I have to sleep in it the hole has to be covered. However, I'm in a rural town so there's not many places to shop from, no big brands though those would likely cost more:

The cheapest car shop wants $125 to replace the whole window which if I had income would not be too bad, but being jobless, is impossible. I went to a place who can cut some wood board that could fit into the area, but they want $80. Yes, they want that just to cut and shape a WOODEN BOARD.

After figuring out the police themselves are apparently not able to be sued since they were involved in a call they believed was legitimate, because of fucking course, both the lawyers I've called and the company staff I was able to get a hold of said that the employer, who caused the problem, can't be sued because I was “technically not an employee” because I was waiting on the return of my background check???

This excuse is rather strange to me, because for the 3 days of backroom training I did, I'm supposed to receive payment for those hours by Wednesday next week. If I was not a “real” employee what are they paying me training hours for?

These responses don't make sense, I was clearly an employee and this nitpick seems to be an attempt to scare me off and help the company avoid responsibility. There's got to be one if not several labor laws being violated here. I'd never work here even if this was reversed after putting me through this.

I'll be looking at lawyers out of town because there's no way they can claim I wasn't an employee when I worked training and was hired. Is that a thing? It can't be, once you're said to be hired you're hired right?

In the meantime, getting legal help is going to take awhile and I need to cover this hole in my car by TONIGHT. I'm not sure what I can use that's very cheap to cover the hole, but any ideas are welcome. There's some alcoholic troublemakers roaming at night, humidity is high, and an open window is not something I can deal with right now…
