Average pay isn’t sustainable

I was doing some research about costs where I live. In my county you need to make 24.62 $ per hour to rent a 1 bedroom apartment with 2 kids. On average we spend about 500$ on BASIC groceries and gas as of this morning was 1.70$ P/L. I also did a call to my insurance company and am paying 120$ a month for car insurance on a 23 yr old car. With a perfect driving record. Minimum wage where I live is $15.50. I currently make 20$ an hour. This is a really good job in most people's opinion, but this isn't sustainable. When people are looking to buy a house it's worse much worse. I am lucky to be married to an incredible human who also works, but I'm in the minority. Thinking of asking for a raise. Thinking of asking for a raise. How do I go about this in your experience. Do I just call my boss and say id like to request an in person meeting?
