UAW member here. Our contract expires next month and we are all preparing to strike, even if no official word has been given. We received a letter today from our COO stating that over the past four years we have gotten a 20% increase in pay, that inflation was old 17% so we really got a raise, and that the cost of switching to EVs is going to have to come from within.
- No the fuck we didnt get a 20% pay raise. No supporting evidence was given. In fact, during COVID when the value of everyone's labor went up we were told “you're in a contract, we aren't gonna pay you more even if the market dictates it”.
- Reported inflation increase from 2019 to today is closer to 20%. Why tell the truth though when trying to take advantage of thousands of people.
- Fuck you. The cost of switching to EV is a cost of doing business and something management should have been planning for the past decade. If the money is coming from anywhere it should be from the top.
I hope we fucking strike and give zero concessions. Fuck these motherfucking fat cats.
