So I work as a contractor/contingent worker at a large company as an Cloud Engineer. A few weeks ago manager #1 told me I was going to be furloughed for a month, so obviously I started applying for new jobs because why would I go a month without pay when I’m pulling a large portion of weight on my team? Anyways two weeks after submitting my furlough paperwork manager #2 reached out and says im not actually one of the ppl being furloughed and that manager #1 was mistaken (manager 1 sent me a “good news you’re not furloughed!” Text later with no apology)
Anyways, i heard back from a few jobs and one question I’m being asked is why i want to leave my current job after only a year. My current response has been that its my first job out of college and Im working as a contractor so im ready to move on to something new, even though i love my team. While thats true I also hate that my contractor position gets no benefits, pto, and after this furlough incident i’ve lost the sense of job security. Whats the best way to respond without sounding like a red flag candidate? I really want this new job.
