…I hated my job so much that I inadvertently committed fraud. Oops.

For some background on the situation… I was hired at a small TPA company as the 'Assistant to the President'; a new role was created as the boss was so busy and needed help managing the workload. They were excited about my project management background. They asked me several times during the interview to utilize that skill and asses the current processes and procedures, and then implement new ones to help increase productivity and efficiency. I was super excited to start and get to work. The company was a mess. No standard operating procedures, no policies, terrible leadership, horrible organization, and communication was almost non-existent. So when I tried to make any changes, all I got was pushback from staff and no backup from the boss and manager. So, I stopped trying and just stuck to my daily work. I was hired at a small TPA company as the 'Assistant to the President'; a new role was created as the boss was so busy and needed help managing the workload.

I then went to remote work because the rent was so insane it was cheaper to live in an RV and be mobile. Once I went remote, I was cut off from the entire office, and I didn't hear from my boss for weeks at a time. He went out of the country for a month on vacation, and I didn't know until someone else told me. I only heard from him or the manager when they wanted something, and I wasn't doing it fast enough for them.

It reached a point where I wouldn't even log on every day or only work a couple of hours at a time. I was hired for full-time work, so I submitted a timecard with full-time hours. They didn't care about me, so why would I do anything more than I absolutely had to?

Well, I messed up when I was sick of it and asked for a raise. I was hoping a higher paycheck and the potential of more work would motivate me again. Then, the boss asked the IT guy to check my VPN and see when I was logged on and what the activity on my email account was.

Busted. I did not intentionally commit timecard fraud…that was never my intention. But putting down hours you didn't work is undoubtedly a fraud. Lesson learned. I was obviously let go, but I'm pissed because they get to go on being a shit company treating their employees poorly, and I'm now a bad person.

So, I'm currently unemployed and, since December, have applied to over 1,000 remote positions and have received nothing.

Any leads or contacts with HR managers would be excellent.

TLDR: I lied on my timecard bc I hated my job and got fired. Now I need a new job, asap. Help!
