I really believe this is what companies want, particularly larger corporations. I see a trend where the ones who haven't been laid off are given double or triple the amount of work with no extra pay, benefits, or even acknowledgment. Once the company gets to the point of needing employees much of the work will be outsourced, eliminating the need for full-time employees.
