No I don't want to quit my job, but I need to focus on something outside of work that isn't a good enough reason I think my Boss would approve of (i.e. School/Family Care/Health) and I'm not trying to suck up my vacation days either and it'd be only for a couple months at most. Do I just ask him outright “Hey, how do I go about getting less than X hours for a limited time?”
My position can be done by almost anyone as in there are others who can pick up my work load, and I'm already working just under 35 hours a week so I know It seems silly to want less than that but just work with me here. Might also help mentioning it's Union.
I'm inexperienced in this regard as I just usually work around my schedule but this thing I'm working on is becoming a major focus for me and I don't wanna burn myself out working on it and, well, working cause It's happened before and I got plenty saved up to dump extra time on It.
