So here goes. Started my career in the family business (insurance 🤮) and was actually good at sales, just hated dealing with external customers. (Yelling, screaming about rate increases, etc). Left and went to work for an insurance division at a bank, basically just doing data entry from conversions where they bought out other insurance agencies. The pay was more than double. That started in 1997. I used to take a 5 min break and walk around the whole office floor (I was in Ops. On one side of the bldg, and there were about 80 customer service reps and agents on the other side) computers and networking was a hobby. I know Microsoft inside and out. I would fix printers, computers, and network issues for people so they didn’t have to call the help(less) desk. Long story short, in 1999 I was recognised and offered s job in the IT Dept with a significant raise. Was doing very well, until 2005. Left the bank due to living in hotels and burnout. Went to work for s family owned agency as IT Network Manager. More money. Then I was laid off in 2009 bc the owner sold out to a corporation, and was no longer needed. I was done and just wanted to take some personal time to travel and wound up doing volunteer work in Israel for 2 years. Came back not sure what to do, and worked a while doing low voltage data cabling. Decided I wanted to persue a job as an electrician. Got my qualifications, and did comml and industrial electrical for about 5 years. Now I have a. Herniated disc and deginerative cartilage and bones in my lower back and hips. So now I want to transition back to IT, but it’s been so long. Is Anyone out there in IT, that can give me pointers on the best field/sector to pursue, within IT?
Thanks for your time and input.
