I was hired as head to fire someone who was coming out as transgender.

My story is UK based and I was hired initially by a law firm to be head of software dev. I was told that I'd have someone under me who needed “structure” in their work day and to lead on the development of a piece of software. During my first day, I noticed this person did not present themselves fully as male so just to clarify, I asked for pronouns. She replied to say I was the only person in the company to ask for pronouns and it was “she/her”. Eventually with my help, she came out to the rest of the company as a transwoman with my support. I also found out this person required specific needs which I also supported fully as she was diagnosed with ADHD. A month later, my managing director got me alone and said to me one to one that he wanted to kick…

A month later, my managing director got me alone and said to me one to one that he wanted to kick her out because, “She is trans and he didn't want litigation from her”. I replied back saying that I can't do that and I told him I was transgender too. His response was, “oh my God I hired another one!”.

In the end after 4 months, I hired someone who was from Nigerian descent who was very good at his job as a developer and had my junior dev who was herself. Once the project was completed, we were all fired the very next day except for my junior who was with the company for 5 years. She left 2 months after.

Then these companies complain why nobody with specialist skills want to work for them!
