Laid off entire team – then asked for help.

This happened a long time ago. I worked for a well-known fairly large software firm. We were acquired by a very large extremely well-known software firm. My company worked as an independent division for nearly 5 years, then one day, because of executive infighting, they decided to layoff anyone who had been part of it. The product was still being used. A couple months later they wanted to do a release and no one knew how to build and release the product. They reached out, and everyone told them to pound sand (to put it kindly).
