Company trying to withhold due vacation time after my two weeks have expired

Long story short. I had 48 hours vacation saved up for the end of the year ( we have a kid due, wanted to save an extra week of vacation for that). I left my job as of this last Friday, and received my last paycheck yesterday. Shockingly (/s) my 48 hours of vacation time we’re not paid out (our vacation time renews yearly on January 1st). I’ve reached out to HR and payroll about this, and they are now saying I had used up all of my accrued time off PLUS an extra 9 hours that they “didn’t end up taking back”. Now, this is impossible because of how our system works. I wouldn’t even be able to enter in a time off request if I had no hours available. And conveniently when I log in to our time keeping service, I’m unable to access any of my records.…

What legal recourse do I have? Not necessarily concerned about the money, but the principal of the matter
