Is it a power trip to delay send update emails at 6pm on Fridays?

Partners work, without fail, will send regular updates a 6:00 pm on Fridays. Direct reports hate having to do it. Its a mandate from corporate. Is this actually helpful so important things get shared or no fuck that guy and his shit kinda thing?
