Im working for a misogynistic tech bro start up that I cant leave due to visa reasons at the moment. At this point, I just need an analysis of what the hell is going on.
To set the stage, the CEO makes it a point not to talk to anyone about his work. He owns the vision and has the unique skill of talking to investors all day. He got a right hand man who comes from finance that takes care of all the numbers and grew the company by attracting users with fake job postings. Obviously a miracle worker here.
On Friday night 8pm, I get a message of I need research on xyz. On Sunday I get a message that this is top priority. On Monday I get told to focus on other work. Then Monday afternoon get told this is needed by Tuesday morning. I spent Monday night gathering data, didnt even eat. And then he sends a message at 10pm saying, Im cancelling all meetings on Tuesday morning because “I fail to see what you sent answers any of my strategic questions”.
I already brought up the misogyny issue with him and he seemed supportive and said, I am giving you so much responsibility, just grab that visibility! But given how I have no context into the “great and visionary” work of getting grants from everyone and all the work I do overtime is deemed useless, I am beginning to think its just a trap they set up to prove to their egos that misogyny doesn't exist and its obviously me that's incapable to whatever standards they set and did not communicate beyond “please do research into x”.
So I guess the question is, what is this magical research that companies are paying millions to consultants to do?
