Let me start by saying that I actually like my job and my supervisor. She has always believed in having a work-life balance and has been understanding of time I need to take off for my kids. Here comes the anti-work part.
When the pandemic hit, we worked from home for about a year and a half before everyone was supposed to be back on campus (I work at a community college). This was during the summer, but hubs and I weren’t comfortable sending our kids to daycare yet. So my boss let me work from home two days a week, and when school started in the fall, she let me work one day from home. Out of nowhere, HR contacts her and asks her why she’s letting me wfh and tells her I can’t do this anymore. Apparently administration doesn’t want people to wfh. This was a couple of months ago.
Yesterday, I saw a job posting for a position on campus (different than mine) that said they are piloting it as wfh position for two days a week. Um, what?
The job I have is one that can be done from and there are many, many opportunities in my field to wfh. I know I could leave if I wanted, but like I said, I really like my boss and my job. I’ve also only had it for two years, and I hate the job application process. I’m not even asking to wfh every day, just a couple of days to be closer to my kids if they need anything, not to mention that my commute is an hour each way.
Thanks for reading. Any advice?
