Back Story: I’ve been managing a franchised wellness studio for over a year now. I was planning on leaving at the end of the month to become a digital nomad, and I’ve been training my replacement (E), and the last step was him going to a week of corporate manager training which is scheduled for next week.
E has been busting his ass to earn the promotion, and everything was set and ready to go.
A couple weeks ago, I had to go on workman’s comp because I fucked up my shoulder on the job with repetitive overhead movement with heavy loads, so I haven’t been able to sell the service which requires lifting and moving bodies. So the franchise owner sent a dude (C) from one of his other studios in another state to come down and help. He was supposed to be here for. Week or two.
Fast forward to today: The Franchise Owner sent his henchmen down today, and they told me that they were not giving E the promotion, and were instead transferring C down permanently and giving him the GM position. I was freaking LIVID. I told them that if they do that, they’ll end up losing a good, hard-working employee, but they didn’t listen.
Then I came back from lunch and I when I was trying to help a customer, I realized that my access to the computer system had been removed. They told me today was my last day but they would pay me through the end of the month anyway.
Now of course E is pissed off, and rightly so. He’s going to do the manager training to get the skills, and then he’s dipping.
Fucking stupid, short-sighted franchise owner!!! Why would you fuck over a good employee like that?!?! The business is going to crash and burn without us, and it will be all the owner’s fault!!!
At the end of the day, your job doesn’t care about you. They don’t care how hard you work, how many hours you put in, how many miles you commute to get there, or how much you go above and beyond.
E, you deserve better.
