Just got home. Can't believe what a joke of a raise it is. I make 42,000 a year and after this raise it will be 44,190 which is the equivalent to 181$ increase after taxes a month. I feel gutted and destroyed. This is a non profit and normally this second position makes $50,000 a year. I was expecting at a minimum, $15,000 raise and this is an utter joke. My hours have more than tripled and if I could have afforded it, I would have walked out right then. I didn't bother to negotiate because I knew it wouldn't matter. Right when I was driving home I called my husband and asked when the earliest I could quit is. Looking at our budget I could quit is in March. Like the last week of March. Since reading all the stories here on the subreddit I've decided that I will quit by text and leave them nothing. No two weeks notice and I will delete every single thing I've ever worked on. They will get the bare minimum of property that is theirs. I feel horrible I am leaving 17 of my employees that I just hired hanging and I have 100 volunteer staff that I will be leaving in the lurch. But I can't live this way. My son is a year and a half old and I have been leaving the house before he wakes up and returning after he falls asleep. I will be cutting my hours in half until the time I quit unless I find another job.
I am turning to you guys to help guide me into yet another career change. I am currently three quarters away through my master's degree in business with a concentration in marketing. At my current job I've managed up to 150 people at a time and I have ran many events that have been well over 300 tp 400 people in attendance. I work for a nonprofit youth organization so I organize all of our events that includes fundraising, donor dinners, recognition dinners, huge events where youth repel, climb, zipline, shooting sports to include archery and firearms. I have created events that have themes and program where youth compete against each other to win prizes and I coordinate large training for all the adult volunteer staff. I do truly love the volunteers and my employees are pretty awesome because I was able to raise their wages to $17 an hour through Grant work.
I also do all the marketing for our work and I really love it. I've gotten great with canva and our fire spring based website. I have made some more free websites such as WordPress for volunteers I've gotten great with Adobe pro. And last year by myself I raised $28,000 in funding by myself. I also trained all of our youth membership to fundraise by selling product that raised $116,000 in a 3-month period. I was only in charge of 210 youth for that fundraising event. I have done some really great things and I was deciding to open up a business in event space design and catering but I need to find a job that makes $60,000 a year in order to be able to open that business and afford a business loan. I am really up to anything and I learn quickly. I am just not sure what to apply for. I really would like to do marketing so that when I open my business I know what tools I need to purchase and it can save me a lot of money running it in house. Do you all have any suggestions or job fields I should be doing more research in? I really want to get out of this wage slavery position as soon as possible.
My past work includes welding, firefighting, admin secretary and lots of shitty retail jobs. I am a 30-year-old female and I'm sick of having shitty bosses. I have no interest in going back into firefighting as I was very sick of getting random dick pics from captains and Chiefs. They were completely uninvited and it is an awful industry for females to be in. If I can land a job at $60,000 a year and work it for one year I will have what I need to start my business.
