I work in a manufacturing plant as a group leader and have more experience in my department than almost everyone. Used to take phone calls at home when issues came up and noone could fix them and I would automatically get 4 hrs pay whether I could tell them what to do in 5 mins or 1.5 hrs. Just over 100 bucks a phonecall, middle of the night could suck a little but I didn't mind the money so it was all good. Could almost double my pay on some bad weeks. Get a new head manager who decides he doesn't wanna pay for phonecalls so I said that's fine never call me at home again. He seemed a little shocked that wouldn't continue taking calls for free but I stuck to it and would never answer a call from work. After a while and many huge downtimes that could've been solved with a quick phonecall he decided he'd pay me an hour to take calls again. I told him I was now used to not having to take calls at home or be woken up and would be hard pressed to do it again even for the 4 hrs I used to get. So now I just enjoy my home time and never have to think about work, his plan really worked for him lol. Did the same to maintenance and said you won't get paid unless you step inside the plant. So our main electrician/programmer who lives over 40 mins away would get a call, leisurely drive in, tell the operator what buttons to click and go home to get his 4 hr pay. So instead of solving an issue in 5 mins on the phone the departments down for easily an hour. Frustratingly hilarious watching these ppl trip over dollars to save a penny. I'm also unionized so that helped me make a stand
