Why are Americans so proud of their country when it looks like a third world country for me as an Outsider?

I dont get the american pride, im from Europe(Germany) and I would not like to work in america for a single day. What makes Americans say its so Great? I only been there once (to NYC as your 0815 Tourist) This isnt meant to offend anyone
