Got a tech job doing helpdesk. I have a MA in Logic and Ancient Lit. Worked warehouse jobs and was promised better pay in tech. Started at 20. Was told certs would get me a raise. A+, Net+, Sec+ as of Friday.
The job I fill paid my predecessor with no school, no certs, 49 an hour. I do his job, and have been offered a two dollar bump. I was promised 35….
I gave my free time to this, I learned Python and Powershell. And it's always the same, “you should be thankful”
Fuck that. My coworkers easily make 35 an hour each and I do their work for them. My mistakes are why I hear “you can always apply elsewhere” too much.
7 years clean and I only have a girlfriend who is sick of me being such a loser. Nobody sees me as worth the trouble. It's hard for me to today.
