My job is requiring me to prove my uncle passed away.

Is that legal? I’ve lost eight family members and three friends over the last three years. I’ve been at my job for nearly two years, so they’re aware of the loss I’ve had to deal with. I let them know this morning that my uncle passed away in his sleep due to a heart attack(my papaw passed away from the same thing two years ago) and now they’re asking me to prove he passed, since in their words “nobody has that many people die that they’re close too” they’re asking me for an obituary or a pamphlet of memoriam to prove he passed or I will be fired for what they say is “making up deaths to get paid days off”. I’m honestly not sure what to do. If it means anything, I’m in the state of Indiana. I’m just at a loss because I need this job to pay…
