I’m retiring from the military soon. I keep getting cold messages/calls from people who run financial planning businesses or work for a company that does. One of them was Primerica.
When ever I research glass door I find out that their pay structure is commission based.
I recently engaged with one of these people and agreed to a phone call and as we were talking she skirted around pay and benefits. At the end of the call she asked if I had any other questions and, having intentionally waited for this moment, I directly but respectfully told her that I would not be interested in a job where pay was based on commissions.
She then admitted that the pay was based on commissions, and then talked me into at least coming in for an interview.
After thinking about it for a few days, the thought of it made me uncomfortable and I reached back to her to decline the interview. I told her as previously stated I am not comfortable with commission work. That I would let them know if I am interested when I got closer to retirement, and I thanked her for the opportunity and for connecting with me.
There’s just something about it that feels like a grift, a pyramid scheme, a Ponzi scheme, or an MLM that I just can’t shake.
