A quick analogy I thought of

My biggest issue with the way things are going with the job market is the double standard. Supply and demand doesn't seem to apply to employment, but sure as shit does to everything else that has a market. I feel like a good equivalency today would be this…I drive to a gas station to fill up my car. I'm basically on empty, have a lot of miles to drive, and have to get where I'm going with zero delay. I park at the pump, exit my car, and head toward the gas station to speak to the clerk. On my way there, I walk right past the huge price display lit up neon red that says “$4.19/gal”. There are also 2-3 other gas stations with their neon signs lit up in view. One says “$3.89/gal”, another says “$3.98/gal”. Now fully aware of the local value of gasoline, I continue into…

Now fully aware of the local value of gasoline, I continue into the gas station, walk right up to the clerk and say, “I'd like a gallon of your finest gas please” while condescendingly slapping down $2.35 on the counter. Clerk says, “it's $4.19/gal.” I say, “well back in 2009 the average retail cost of gas was $2.35/gal, final offer.” The clerk obviously declines the sale, tells me to kick rocks, and I'm out the door. I get back in my car, still nearly empty, and continue to head down the road to try my bullshit grift at the next gas station. On the way, I call a buddy of mine who also has a car to commiserate and say, “you believe these fuckin gas stations nowadays? Nobody wants to sell gas anymore.”
