Be a Team Player and Work 16/hr Shifts ( And pay $240 )

I've been doing security for a little over 3 years, it's never been a issue with declining overtime. I started this new job, so perfect. A better step up than when I was at a guard at Smith's by the homeless shelter, when I got at my new job my boss was on her way out the door. We got a new boss, on her first day she said she couldn't wait to fire people and turn this site around. Within a month over 8 – 11 people either straight up quit due to her attitude or got fired. Now that she fired a majority of us we are hurting badly for guards. She now expects everyone to work 12, 16 or 18 hour shifts.

I have to let my daycare know of any chances in advance, my daycare is also 6AM – 6PM.

I scheduled to pick up my son by 2:30PM, after that it's a dollar per minute until I pick him up. I show up everyday, 15 minutes early to my shift but because Pablo calls off or says he'll be late for the 5th day in a row I have to either stay overtime or pay my daycare $60 an hour.

I explained this to my boss yesterday, also that during the interview I specifically said I could only do 40 hours a week. I didn't sign up for 5 16/hr shifts, I literally can't work that. Even if I was willing to pay $240 to stay over 4 hours, by the time I get off my daycare will be closed and CPS can be called.

So she deleted my schedule on Ehub – I found out this morning, she had all day to talk to me yesterday and didn't. Woke up to me being basically fired I guess? Highly unprofessional.

What would you guys do? Would you have paid the $240 possibly everyday or every other day to keep your job? I'm just blown away, I haven't gotten a write up or anything. All I did was stand up for myself and she fired me but didn't even have the guts to tell me formally. I'm not even a scary person, I'm yes ma'am no ma'am type of person.

My options are: Pay $240 often because someone else can't make it to work, put my son in a closet for 8 – 12 hours and hope nothing happens ( child neglect ) or Pay $240 often and have CPS called on me often ( child neglect ).

Obviously I would never do the last two but realistically those are my options. I told my boss this and she just sat there dumbfounded. In my previous companies if a guard is late or can't stay the manager stays/comes and takes over. She didn't like that I pointed that out.

I signed up 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week. Not 5 16's. Honestly that sounds like a nightmare.
