I was laid off in September, just 2 weeks after my wife left her job to go back to school full-time. Managing on a single income was already going to be a challenge with 3 kids, so the timing was stellar lol.
That said, I've been job hunting 8-10 hours a day for 2 months, putting on a reassuring face for the family while our savings rapidly disappeared. I was getting 1st, 2nd and even 3rd interviews for multiple openings in my field, but nothing was coming through. Desperate and frightening times to say the least.
So, after 3 rounds of increasingly promising and positive interviews with this particular company, I get a generic “thanks, but we've elected to move forward with other candidates” email. Okay, that's fine, it's not personal, I have other opportunities in the works, something will happen . . . and all the other self-affirming platitudes you tell yourself to keep from freaking the f–k out and scaring the kids. In other words, I moved on and focused on the chances in front of me.
Two days later they send me this email asking for help to improve their hiring process. I mean, what the f–k? Do you seriously think I have the time or inclination to help you at this point? I'm still shocked by the degree of tone-deaf audacity, and I figured this was probably the most appropriate forum to share this little gem haha.
The good news is that after 175+ applications, 40+ phone/zoom/irl interviews, and 74 rejections I accepted an offer today with a fantastic company for about 30% more than these sociopaths were paying *sigh*
