Antiwork:

I find myself in a difficult work-related situation and would appreciate some advice. I've been working as a robotics technician, going above and beyond my role for several years now. Through self-motivation, I've successfully executed multiple projects and meticulously documented my abilities and performance. The natural progression for me would be to move into an engineering position, which I was turned down for last year, with the promise that there would be another opportunity in the future.

Recently, I invested a significant amount of my free time in writing new software and designing/calibrating multiple systems that have made remarkable improvements in my area of expertise. Friday, I announced my latest and most impressive project yet – a software system that goes beyond my job role and could have a significant impact company-wide.

However, shortly after the announcement, I discovered through my own research that there was a job posting for an engineering position in my direct work area. Strangely enough, my immediate management, who are responsible for the hiring and creation of this position, never mentioned any of this to me. When I confronted them about it, they denied any knowledge and even laughed off the situation.

Given these events, I'm no longer want to release the software I've been working so hard on. It seems disheartening that when a job role that aligns with my work is created, I'm not even considered for it.

I am seeking advice on how to handle this situation professionally. How should I approach stepping back my additional workload to align with my peers and how can I politely retract my offer to provide the software to the company while I look for other jobs?

Regardless of giving advice, anyone who reads this should note the results of going above and beyond.
